Picture I took of a beach a few km West of Chania. It has a traditional Kafeneio with the best Choriatiki (Greek salad) I ever tasted. Half price of the restaurants at the Old Port, double the portion and with REAL fresh olive oil from the surrounding area. Sweet tomatos, black wrinkeled, hearty olives. An absolute gem of a place, run by a very friendly Greek couple who refused my tips!

 

Casa Delfino Hotel in Chania, Crete claims to offer WiFi in the rooms, but this does not work and the owner, Margarita Markantonaki, admits they have been so far unable to get it working. A Vodafone SIM card I bought had unusable speed. I lost 3300 EUR I had paid to Casa Delfino because I needed Internet and the noise at night in the hotel added to the problem. Margarita personally offered me a refund but broke this promise. I had asked only for a refund for the days I did not use. And because even this embarrassed me, I had left a 300 EUR tip for the cleaning staff. Casa Delfino had no working WiFi in any of two rooms I was given and was terribly noisy from 04:00 to 05:00, when people checked out nearly every night to catch their early flights out. Margarita said she has "no idea what happens at night from 24:00 to 07:00" because they have only a hired 3rd party night guard at the Reception.
